Girls’ cross country, 10-1, placed fourth in the Division I State Meet Saturday, qualifying for All-States, which is Saturday in Northfield, according to coach Brandon Mogayzel.
The last time the team qualified for All-States was in 2004, according to Mogayzel.
“The team has been a contender all year, and they proved it on the biggest stage in this meet,” Mogayzel said. “Beating Weymouth for the third time this season was a great accomplishment.”
Sophomore Sonya Jampel was a medalist in the meet, placing eighth overall, according to Mogayzel. “She has really come into her own in her first season on the team,” Mogayzel said.
One of the team’s goals for the season was to qualify for All-States, Mogayzel said. “Once we realized how talented this team was, that became our goal,” he said.
The team’s main strength is its depth, according to Mogayzel. Two seniors, two juniors, two sophomores and one freshman ran in the meet. “This kind of balance will keep the team strong in the future,” he said.
