Girls’ gymnastics beat Weymouth 135.95-127.7 at home Friday, improving its record to 2-0.
According to senior Allie Hurwitz, a captain with seniors Lili Margolin and Rachel Vasilyev, “The team gave it its all and really worked hard. I don’t think anything went poorly.”
Junior Julia Wang and sophomore Amara Lutwack, who competed in every event, were key to the meet, according to Hurwitz. Both finished with a score of 36.45, which “is amazing,” Hurwitz said.
“The newcomers on this team have shown great dedication so far. The other captains and I are very impressed,” Hurwitz said.
A few members of the team were sick or injured. Hurwitz injured her knee at the first meet and freshman Rachel Adamsky fractured two vertebrae at practice, but the team was able to pull through and achieve a victory, Hurwitz said.
Coach Jim Chin remains hopeful for the Tigers’ chances, saying that to make it to Sectionals. “We just need to keep the rest of our team healthy.”
An upcoming meet is against Wellesley Tuesday, Jan. 22 at home.
According to Hurwitz, the team has always been a strong competitor. “It will be interesting to see what happens,” she said.
Hurwitz is very optimistic for the rest of the season. “I think we will continue to improve as the season goes on.”
