Gymnastics seized a hard earned 146.5-132.25 victory against Natick Sunday, Jan. 11.
The meet began with bars, where North displayed its tenacity with high scores and well-executed routine. The Tigers quickly took the lead with a score of 37.25-29.85. Senior Nika Jayanth, following a standout performance, earned a top score of 9.5.
“We nailed every routine we did. We had really high scores, and a lot of personal records, and I’m proud of everyone’s performance,” said head coach Cassie Ford. “And, of course, winning always feels really good.”
The meet continued with vault, where sophomore Alana Dukakis displayed an impressive performance. She earned the highest score of 9.45, helping the Tigers claim their first-place spot. By the end of the first half, North led with a 74.3-64.8 score.
North then moved into the floor rotation, which was a highlight of the meet, according to junior Greer Howard, a captain along with senior Samantha Shu and junior Simona Batista-Ciani. “We had an amazing floor rotation, and beat our record by one tenth, which is really exciting,” said Howard. “We always go in with positive attitudes, and it really paid off.”
The technical and clean performances by each athlete brought North’s total score to 109.05, with outstanding routines from sophomores Lucia Grapski, who scored a 9.5, and Sela Yoon, who scored a 9.45.
The meet concluded with beam routines, which, according to Ford, was not the Tiger’s best work. Howard added, however, “Even though beam wasn’t our best, our team average is still the highest in the entire state,” added Howard.
Though errors were made and falls occurred, the team still triumphed, ending the meet by breaking its record with the Tigers’ highest score yet.
North, 3-0, will compete Thursday, Jan. 15, at home against Framingham.
