Girls’ indoor track finished its season undefeated, placing third in both the Bay State Conference Championship and the Division One Relay Championship.
“I’m very proud of the girls this year. They performed just as we hoped and I think the feeling on the team is very positive going into the spring season,” said head coach, Michael Travers.
This year’s captains are seniors Brooke Bennett, Penny Blumenthal, Bella Mangada, and Shiaowei Qu.
According to Travers, Blumenthal “blossomed,” ranking first in the state and ninth in the country in the 600m for her final season.
“Our team is very proud of the fact that we’re pretty consistent, and for big meets, we just do what we do and nothing changes,” said Qu.
At the State Relay Championship, the Tigers’ 4×4 and 4×2 relays were exceptional, according to Travers.
“It’s an event that we focus on every year. This is a prestigious meet, and we were second this year. We’ve won it three years in a row prior to that,” Travers added.
“It’s always a really fun meet, because it’s a bunch of relays together so people from different events can run together, and we all work together as a team,” said Qu.
Bennett, and juniors Blake MacNeal, Sophie Finkelstein, and Esty Dudnik, earned All-Star Awards at the Division One Championship.
“We keep score at that meet, and it’s more of an individual accomplishment for the girls, but it’s also a meet that is very important to us,” said Travers.
MacNeal and Finkelstein shined in their field events, and Dudnik stood out in the two mile, said Qu.
The team sent ten athletes to the New Balance National Championship March 12-15. The Tigers saw personal bests in the 4×400 relay, sprint medley relay, and the two mile. Junior Maggie Abely and Blumenthal ran the 400m and 800m, respectively.
Next year’s captains are MacNeal, Finkelstein, Abely, and junior Skye Larson.
