Pan fried gyoza and spicy red curry simmered behind the counter of Amarin of Thailand, a Thai restaurant recently relocated to Newtonville after moving from their Wellesley location, Friday, Jan. 9.
The family-owned restaurant has been in business for nearly four decades in their Newton Corner and Wellesley locations and replaced LeDu Thai Eatery, located at 313 Walnut Street, which closed in October 2025. Amarin of Thailand offers a variety of authentic Thai dishes including noodles, fried rice, and curry.
According to Kharuharat, the new location in Newtonville is an improvement from the old spot in Wellesley.
“The environment over here is better, more traffic in and out,” he said. According to Kharuharat, North students provide good business for their restaurant.
“Now that LeDu closed down, there’s less Asian restaurants that I like in Newtonville,” said sophomore Crystal Li. She added that many of her friends also enjoyed dining at LeDu Thai Eatery.
According to sophomore Safinah Kasirye, while few people heard about Amarin of Thailand’s recent opening, she is excited to try out the new restaurant.
Li added, “I’m probably going to check it out when I’m free sometime.”
Freshman Gabi Silva, who frequently orders takeout from Amarin of Thailand, said, “They are always kind to me, and they remember my order.”
According to employee Withawat Kharuharat, most people order takeout rather than dining in at Amarin of Thailand. While the restaurant initially only offered takeout, they recently started letting customers sit in to eat.
