Boys lacrosse wins Suburban Championship, retains Adam London Trophy

Boys lacrosse defeated Waltham 10-2, winning the annual Suburban Cup game at Dickinson field on Thursday, Apr. 18.

The Suburban Cup, an annual game played between Waltham and North, was renamed after the death of North senior Adam London in 2010. London was a goalie for the Tigers.

According to pilot history teacher Nick Pfeifer, the trophy commemorates London and the time he spent playing for North. Pfeifer said, “He was a great advocate for the sport loved the game.”

North defeated Waltham last year 11-5 and according to Pfeifer “the winner gets to keep that trophy for the year. We have had it for multiple years now and to lose it would mean that we literally lose the trophy for a year. There is an empty spot in our trophy box.”

But North left no doubt about who the rightful owner of the trophy by pummeling Waltham 10-2.

The game started slow, with the first goal scored by Waltham with just under three minutes left in the first quarter. But North managed to score and the quarter ended in a 1-1 tie.

“It was a slow start. But we stuck with our game plan,” said Pfeifer.

The team’s patience paid off as North’s offense erupted in the second, scoring seven straight goals. With an 8-1 lead, Waltham’s chances of winning were slim. According to Pfeifer, after the team scored seven straight goals, “That was kind of it. We coasted from there and finished with a 10-2 win.”

Hunter Adam won MVP of the game scoring three goals. Another player with a strong performance was Robert Sullivan. Sullivan had three goals, two assists and contributed to the teams first four goals. Other players that contributed to the team’s victory were Wes SIlver, Mike Dirusso, and Chris Perry.

The team’s now 4-1 will play next against Natick on Tuesday, Apr. 23.
