Girls’ swim and dive, 12-1, won the Bay State Conference Saturday, Nov. 4. The following week they placed second at the MIAA South Sectionals at the MIT swimming pool.
At the meet, senior Ciara McCormack broke the conference record in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 59.72 seconds. “It was an incredible feeling. It had been my goal for the entire season,” said McCormack, a captain along with seniors Caroline Beecher, Claire Campbell, Katelin Luce, Kristen Luce, and Serena Ly.
McCormack credits head coach Emily Manion for helping her break the record. “She gave me a lot of confidence going into that meet which helped me tremendously,” she said.
The relay teams performed well at both the Bay State Conference Championship and the MIAA South Sectionals. The team put up times within seconds of the school records.
Ly also played an important role in both meets, winning the 100 yard breaststroke event at both the Bay State and Sectional meets.
“I believe our team is not finished yet,” said McCormack. “We are all very motivated and I’m excited to see what happens at states.”
The team will compete in the Division I state meet at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Sunday.
