Wrestling, 8-9, beat Weymouth 44-24 Wednesday in a match that could have gone either way, according to coach John Staulo.

“The teams were pretty evenly matched. If we had lost a few of our matches, Weymouth could have ended up on top,” he said.

The team played well, according to Staulo. Many players got pins, including senior Nick Sweeney, junior Eyob Gizachew and freshman Ben Shale.

Staulo also said that senior Steve Paton played well. “He was behind during the whole match and could have given up, but stuck with it and got a pin.”

The team also had a quad meet Saturday, Jan. 26 against Walpole, Needham and Milton, where Staulo says they could have played better, ending up 0-3.

“We definitely didn’t get what we could have gotten. Some of our players plainly just didn’t show up ready to play, and that hurt us,” he said.

The team has an upcoming quad Saturday, Feb. 2, against Watertown, Concord-Carlisle and Waltham, where Staulo says he hopes they do well.

“We want to finish the year with a winning record and on a happy note,” he said.

The Tigers also have their last meet against Brookline at home Wednesday, an important meet, according to Staulo.
