Senior Micah Klein, a TV Media Arts Major III, received the Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award in an award ceremony for Career and Technical Education (CTE) program students in the Lasker Auditorium, Thursday, Jan. 29.
“It’s surprising and it’s great,” said Klein. “I mean, all of my work could not have happened without my wonderful teachers and all the students that helped make everything happen.”
Nominees for this award must meet qualifications including a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, technical competence and work experience in their area of study, excellent attendance, leadership qualities, participation in extracurricular activities, and community involvement, according to CTE department head Kathleen Duff.
According to TV Media Arts teacher Scott Dunlop, Klein has always gone above and beyond since he joined the program.
“He has been one of the most exquisite students I’ve ever taught,” said Dunlop. “He’s always eager to learn and it felt like he was always part of our program because he was always there and he was integral in everything that we do.”
Other students nominated for the award included seniors Roxy Feldman, a graphics major, Theo Horwitz, an automotive major, Malia Thompson-Leong, an early education and care major, and Duncan Yens, a culinary major.
Klein currently serves as the executive producer of “The Update,” a monthly show created by TV Media Arts students that airs during advisory and covers local events that take place in the North community.
“No TV project is an individual effort,” said Klein. “It’s the product of everyone putting their minds together which is why I’m so thankful for my teachers and classmates.”
According to Dunlop, Klein is his first student to be eligible to receive the Outstanding Vocational Technical Student Award because the TV Media Arts program is relatively new.
“He’s our first winner, which is an amazing thing,” Dunlop said.
Klein also received the 2024 student production award in the public service announcements category from the Boston/New England chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his work on the short film “4 Feet”.
