On a backdrop of orange and black decorations, North’s athletic department brought an exciting afternoon to the Reggie Gym, celebrating the fall season’s success, Tuesday Nov. 25.
“The purpose of the pep rally is to always get students excited for an upcoming game or that kind of school spirit,” said Assistant Athletic Director Allison Manzella.
The pep rally began with introductions from Athletic Director Mike Jackson and the student-athlete announcers, seniors Nicole D’alfonso, a cheer team captain, and Luke Washek, a unified basketball team captain. D’alfonso and Washek began by briefly honoring the fall sports teams for their achievements this season, before introducing a fun game to kick off the rally.
Pep rally festivities began with a cardboard box stacking contest, in which students and staff alike competed to stack box towers taller than themselves.
During the rally, achievements of fall sports teams, including boys’ soccer, girls’ swim and dive, and girls’ volleyball, were announced, and each team saw a moment in the spotlight.
According to Jackson, success reached new heights for many of the teams this past season. Field hockey and boys’ soccer qualified for the state tournament, girls’ soccer made it to the sweet-16 in the state tournament, girls’ cross country placed third at All-States and qualified for regionals, girls’ volleyball were state tournament finalists, and girls’ swim and dive won the state tournament to cap off an undefeated season.
Additionally, unified basketball, boys’ golf, and boys’ cross country concluded their seasons with significant personal growth and fulfillment.
Another game included audience participation, where audience volunteers took part in a wig-snatching game by wearing bright colored wigs while trying to remove other people’s wigs from their heads.
In addition to games, student announcers introduced the upcoming football game against Brookline at Fenway.
“I just want to say thank you for all of the support. Now, let’s go kill Brookline,” said senior Dylan Leone, a captain of the football team.
To wrap up the afternoon, D’alfonso and Washek announced the winners of the raffle from the tickets students received at the beginning of the rally. Students had the chance to win two tickets to the Fenway game and a speaker, while staff could win the grand prize of a $100 Amazon gift card.
