Girls’ lacrosse crushed Framingham 20-3, at home, Tuesday, April 1.
Framingham took an early lead from the stick of senior Tamerate Samwel, but the Tigers fought back with fire. After finding themselves down a goal, senior Beckett Houston, a captain along with Skylar Boggs and Sophia Mitchell, made herself open and scored to even up the game for the Tigers.
Shortly after, sophomore Lily Southall found sophomore Kendall Swint to take the lead. Houston scored two more unanswered goals and sophomore Izzy Morse assisted junior Alex Giunta in finishing the scoring in the first quarter with North up 5-1.
“I think the girls really picked each other back up, and the community we have really let us get back,” said Morse.
Houston started hot again with a long drive to the net and finished it with a powerful shot. Framingham finally got back on the board with an eight-meter shot from junior Bella Ceruti, but North recovered and Giunta finished a long possession off with a goal. Right from the draw, Framingham took it the distance to make the score 8-3, but Southall and Morse’s shifty moves were the perfect response, solidifying North’s lead 10-3 by the end of the half.
North carried its momentum into the second half after superb defense from Southall converted to a Swint and Giunta connection for a goal. Freshman Vayla Leffler started her season in net with a save on an eight-meter shot. North continued to play with ferocity, pounding the Framingham net with another five goals from Blumenthal, Giunta, Houston, and Swint to end the period up 17-3.
“I think it comes down to confidence,” said Mitchell. “If you are successful in a game, it makes you more confident and more willing to take the ball or take an opportunity.”
The fourth quarter started with a running clock, and sophomore Emily Lao scored her first career goal.
“We have a great season ahead of us and our team works really well together,” said Boggs.
North will take on Weymouth at home Thursday, April 3.
