North, 22-0, claimed a hard-earned 53-49 victory against Springfield Thursday, March 13 after a fierce battle in Worcester. The Tigers earned this critical win by practicing excellent teamwork and showcasing unwavering determination.
Tiger fans showed up to the game in large numbers, ready to cheer on the team as it took on a tough opponent for an opportunity to play in the state championship finals.
The bleachers were electric with excitement and anticipation. The fans showed up to the game in coordinated U.S.A.-themed outfits.
“I thought they played great,” said head coach Paul Connolly. “I’m so proud of these guys. They deserved it.”
The Tigers, led by senior captains Nicky Spinelli and Teagan Swint, set themselves up for success with a five-point lead in the first quarter that was skillfully maintained by teamwork and collaboration.
According to sophomore Bryson Mercedes, Springfield seemed to understand North’s impressive drive and decided to bring passion and a renewed energy into the second half.
However, they were no match for the teamwork of the Tigers who repeatedly completed five to six passes before scoring.
Swint entered the fourth quarter by making two consecutive three-pointers, his second and third out of the five he made during the game.
According to Swint, he tries to play his hardest each game, and whatever happens, happens.
“Job’s not finished,” Mercedes added.
The Tigers fell to Franklin High School 55-52 at the state championship finals Sunday, March 16, at UMass Lowell’s Tsongas Center.
