Football prepares for 125th annual Thanksgiving Day Game

Senior Andrew Landry, a captain with seniors Nolan Boyer and Michael Coscione, attempts a pass in the annual Friday Night Lights Game against Natick on Friday, Nov. 18.

Football, 3-7, will play at Brookline on Thursday morning in the 125th annual Thanksgiving Day Game.

Head coach Mike Coppola understands the significance of this century old tradition. “Many of the people on my staff, including myself, have played in this game,” he said. “We understand the importance of that Thanksgiving Day Game. It’s the last game of the season, and it’s probably the game that you’re going to remember the most.”

The team has worked hard at practice since they were eliminated from the playoffs. According to senior Michael Coscione, a captain with seniors Nolan Boyer and Andrew Landry, they have been working on defensive tackling, an aspect of their defense that has struggled throughout the season.

According to Coppola, the Tigers have generally been a passing team this season, and hope to improve their run game in their final matchup of the season. Several players to watch for on offense are seniors Alessio Calcagni, Tyson Duncan, Andrew Landry, and junior Matthew Morris. Coppola also noted senior Amir Skelly and junior Evan Thompson as key players on defense.

North has won 15 out of the last 17 games against Brookline and the team hopes to improve upon this record. “We’re just looking to keep that streak alive and just have a good time, eat good food after,” said Coscione. “Just play your hearts out, just don’t regret anything and put everything you can on the field.”
