The cafeteria hummed as students explored different cultures during Multicultural Night Tuesday, April 30. Families stood behind tables displaying traditional food and drink, colorful clothing, flags or banners, and pictures of their country.

“We don’t learn about every single culture in school and you definitely don’t get to try the food,” sophomore Kayley Somers said. “It’s nice for people to see these cultures.”

Parent Iris Coloma-Gaines, who represented Peru, said Multicultural night provides students with opportunities to explore other countries.

“There’s such a huge wealth of diversity here at the school, and it’s good for us to learn about each other and learn about our different backgrounds and cultures,” Coloma-Gaines said.

According to principal Henry Turner, the event was organized by students and parents to create an environment in which students could acknowledge and appreciate their culture and the cultures of their peers.

“It’s nice for families to get to know each other and for students to realize the diversity we have in our school,” Turner said.
