Boys' volleyball looks towards State Tournament

by Andrew Mannix
After a strong regular season, boys’ volleyball, 13-3, is looking towards a State Championship.
“We are an extremely tight knit team and we love to work together to accomplish our goals. We definitely are playing to our level and other teams’ level and we enjoy the games that we play” said senior Balazs Bonyhay, a captain with seniors Koby Avramovich, Wyatt Emenaker and Dan Mei.
The past few years the Tigers have come close to a State Championship, but were unable to finish it off. This year the Tigers look to be the first north team to win a State Championship.
In order to achieve that goal, the Tigers must take a leap forward according to Emenaker.
“Probably the big thing our team has to overcome is to kinda jump the line and go from good to great. We’ve been a really good team this whole season but we really need to be able to find that next gear in order to win important matches,” said Emenaker.
After being 13-1 after the first 14 matches, the Tigers dropped the last two matches of the regular season against Framingham and undefeated Needham, who they have now lost six in a row to. If the Tigers managed to pull off a victory against undefeated Needham they would have earned a share of the Bay State Conference Title.
According to Emenaker, the biggest win of the year came against Wellesley, where the Tigers won the game in five sets in a best-of-five match. This was their toughest match apart from Needham.
After waiting two weeks to have their first tournament match, the Tigers will face Brockton Tuesday, June 2 at North. If the Tigers win, they will advance to play the winner of the South and Barnstable match.
