Nordic is “working towards having a bonded and cohesive team, a strong race record, and a good finish at the States race,” said senior Alyssa Kann, a captain with seniors Lauren Benson, Sonya Jampel, and Alex Klavens.
Nordic boys placed third in their first meet of the season.
Representing the girls, seniors Jampel placed first and Benson placed seventeenth.
Although the team was successful at its first meet, there are many first-time skiers. Because it snowed late this year, the team is still working on teaching members how to ski, according to Kann.
“We are grateful for Weston Ski Track putting in such a strong effort to create about a 2,000 foot loop of manmade snow so far and lead the celebration of artificial winter,” Jampel said.
According to Jampel the numerous different levels of ability, the team chemistry is still strong and continues to grow.
“We have a strong crew of freshmen coming in of varying abilities as well as many new upperclassmen skiers learning to ski for the first time. We are proud of all the skiers who had the courage to learn a new sport,” Jampel said.
Klavens believe the success and strength of the team comes from the chemistry between the members.
“The strength of Nordic is the incredibly strong sense of community that our members create.” Klavens said.
Benson agrees that “Nordic is truly unique not just for the incredible talent present, but because it is like a family. Over the years, I’ve watched the team grow larger and larger and I can’t wait to see where it goes in the future.”
Nordic will participate in the second race of the season at Weston Ski Track Wednesday.
