Dance hopes for postseason success

by Ryan Condon
Fall dance team is practicing hard and expects success in upcoming competitions, according to senior Audrey Derobert, a captain with senior Caroline Nunberg.
The team will compete in an invitational competition Sunday at Beverly, in Bay States as an exhibition team Thursday at Milton, in the New England Cheer and Dance Competition Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Reggie Lewis Track Center and in States at Shrewsbury Sunday, Nov. 18.
The team has been learning its routine for the past three weeks, according to Derobert. “It’s a big step up from last year’s routine,” she said. “We’ve added lifts, headstands, stalls and other elements that make the dance more exciting to watch.”
Nunberg said she is confident in this year’s squad. “The team’s strengths include being supportive of one another, practicing hard during crunch time, and of course, the fact that everyone is a strong dancer,” she said.
“Our plan is to focus on us and not other teams. Our toughest competition is ourselves,” she said. “We want to prove that if we want it enough, we can win.”
According to Derobert, the team was invited to the competition Sunday based on its performances last year. This is the first year the team has competed, which poses a challenge.
“I’m just hoping for a strong all-around performance so that we can work out whatever problems we might have,” she said.
Overall, Derobert said she is confident about the team’s chances in the competitions. “The competition at Reggie Lewis has always been a strong one for us, and Bay States will be fun because it’s a chance to show off what we’re capable of,” she said.
“States is sure to be a tough competition because it’s at a higher level, but we’re hoping to place at least as well as we did last year.”
Nunberg said the team hopes to continue last year’s success.
“We are all very excited, and we hope to keep the winning streak going!”
