Golf scores solid victory over Milton

by Ryan Condon

Golf, 5-2, advanced to 4-0 in Bay State Conference matches Monday, beating Milton 61-47 on the road, according to coach Bob MacDougall.

“Monday was a good team win,” said MacDougall. “This was the first time we played a match on their course, and we didn’t have the local knowledge we have on other courses we play.”

Senior Brendan Ryan and junior Charlie Goldberg, captains with senior Mark Vrahas, both shot a 37, two over par. This is a strong score considering the team’s unfamiliarity with the course, said MacDougall.

According to Goldberg, the team has been playing excellent golf lately. “Our new players are playing really well and are adapting nicely to this style of competition,” he said.

The Tigers are working on improving its short game, according to MacDougall. “As always, I would like us to be more consistent there because that is where holes are won and lost,” he said.

The squad faces a tough Brookline squad today at home, which it lost to earlier in the season during a non-league match. “They are an excellent team, and it will take our best to beat them,” said MacDougall. “We came away from the last match thinking we could beat them on our own course.”

Goldberg believes the team can beat Brookline. “I feel confident we can defend our turf and win this one.”
