Golf placed fourth at the Bay State Conference Championships on Thursday, October 3rd. Seniors Pete Delmonico and Jake Forbes, captains, as well as senior Jacob Teszler, represented North.

The team totaled 230 strokes on the day with Delmonico and Forbes scoring 81 and 77 respectively. Teszler led the trio with a score of 72. “Personally, I had a really good day,” said Teszler. “But, I think as a team we came well short of what we were shooting for.” Teszler placed fifth on the individual leaderboard and was named a Bay State Conference All-Star for his performance.

Teszler cited course management as a reason for their performance. “Course strategy errors on the back nine, not putting the ball in the right spot was our downfall,” he said. “This is why we have practice rounds.”

He added that the team struggled on the back half of the course. “I think there’s a couple holes where Pete made a couple poor decisions as far as managing the course,” he said. “Even myself despite how well I played on the back nine, on one of my holes I hit one in the water, making double bogey.”

Wellesley placed first with a score of 215 led by senior Michael Thorbjornsen, the 2018 Junior Amateur US Open Champion, led the field with a score of 64. “Obviously he is a very good and talented player, so it was really no surprise when we saw he won,” said Teszler. “We all know that he is the best player in the Conference.”

Teszler said that the team needs to focus in on the State Championship. “For the seniors, it feels like this is what we’ve worked so hard for the last four years,” he said. “It’s an exciting time obviously, a lot of opportunities ahead, but it’s a very important time to lock in and put ourselves in the best position to qualify for the State Championship.”
