Girls’ cross country, 4-0, beat both Braintree and Norwood by a perfect score of 15-50 Wednesday, Sept. 19  in a combined meet, according to coach Brandon Mogayzel.

“The whole team performed well,” said Mogayzel. “We had three well-defined packs, which enabled the team to really meet its potential.” The squad attained many season-best times for a 5k race, he said.

The team wants to continue applying the strategy of running in packs, having found success with it lately according to senior Kaylee Spitaels, a captain with seniors Meghan Bellerose, Caroline Loftus and Julia Schlossman.

Spitaels said the team is developing surprisingly fast. “Everyone is working together to show the new members the ropes,” she said.

Mogayzel said he is confident that the team can continue its success. “At this point, all we have to do is stay healthy and let the training unfold,” he said. “New members are making progress and adjusting, and veterans are picking up where they left off.”

The squad will face Wellesley at home Thursday. Although the team lost to Wellesley last year, Mogayzel said he expects the team to win. “I have confidence in our ability to beat them this year,” he said.

The Tigers will face Needham and Walpole at Needham Tuesday, Oct. 2.  “Needham is looking great this year, so we’re working towards that meet,” Spitaels said.
