PTSO hosts Just Think: Teens Making Smart Choices Expo [Updated Date]

by Sophie King
Next Tuesday, the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) will host Just Think: Teens Making Smart Choices, an educational exposition at this school with fun activities and resources to teach students about healthy decision making.
This free event is being held during student lunch hours and from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Main Street.
More than 30 organizations will be present and students and parents can learn about issues such as distracted driving, positive body image, stress reduction, dating safety, mental health, suicide prevention, and more, according the PTSO’s press release.
In addition to these community resources, there will be crossfit and yoga demonstrations, pizza and other refreshments, live music, henna tattoos, and the first 50 teens who bring a parent will receive a treat bag, according to the event’s flyer.
Junior Eli Schwamm, who learned about Samaritans, a suicide prevention organization, at the event last year, said “I have been staffing their hotline once a week for the last 9 months. I like it so much that I gave up Saturday nights for it and haven’t felt even a hint of regret,” in the PTSO’s press release.
Principal Jennifer Price said, in the PTSO’s press release, “I appreciate that the PTSO has provided this valuable experience for our families. I implore all families to take time to come to this event to help us all ‘just think’ about making smart choices.”
Junior Parent Night begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday as well, so parents and guardians are encouraged to stop by before the event, according to the PTSO website.
Just Think: Teens Dialogues is a part of the event from 6:45 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. where parents and teens can ask junior and senior students questions about life at this school, according to PTSO co-president Lynne LeBlanc. Middle schoolers are also encouraged to attend.
The event was canceled on Jan. 22 due to a snow day.
