In order to raise money for “low income Newton students aspiring to participate in our international educational programs,” the Global Education Leadership Fund (GELF) will host a dinner and dance Saturday, March 24, according to the event’s invitation.

The fundraiser features a five-course tasting menu and costs $125 per person.

Superintendent David Fleishman and mayor Setti Warren will attend the event, and elementary school principals will serve as waiters, according to Drake.

In 2008, teachers, administrators and parents founded GELF, according to history teacher Gregory Drake, who helped organize the event. In the past, GELF has helped over 40 students, according to Drake. “Every year we help seven to eight low-income students,” he said.
The students who receive financial aid travel to countries including China, France, Italy, Nicaragua, Prague and Spain.

“GELF is a life changing experience for the students who participate,” Drake said.
