Girls’ basketball fell 50-51 in an evenly matched fight against Milton, Friday, Jan. 9.
According to senior Nikki Rao, a captain along with senior Nina Bakal and junior Mia Mescher, the Tigers stayed solid, keeping an optimistic mentality.
“We came out hard in the first quarter,” said Nikki. “The difference came down to maintaining that same intensity late, so we need to work on staying focused, because every possession matters.”
Up by one point towards the end of the second quarter, Milton fouled, and the Tigers earned three free throw opportunities. Senior Allie Danis was triumphant in her free throw, bringing the game to a 25-25 tie at the end of the first half.
According to sophomore Vayla Leffler, despite the team’s rough patches, the Tigers always dedicate their full efforts to maximize their score.
“We work really hard together, and we have a good team bond, which was definitely felt,” said Leffler.
In the third quarter, Rao and sophomore Annabelle Wardly’s effective passing sequences resulted in multiple successful baskets.
Throughout the game, Bakal was a key player who helped the team thrive, especially during the second quarter.
“We didn’t shoot well, but I know if we keep working hard, we will get the results that we want,” said head coach Todd Sundstrom.
North, 4-7, fell 58-61 to Braintree Tuesday, Jan. 13, and defeated Peabody 61-34 at home Wednesday, Jan. 15.
