Field hockey, 7-7-4, “saw their best playing” near the end of the season, according to senior Jen Buras, a captain with seniors Gabrielle Gilpin, and Yunah Jang, and Darcy Rougeaux.

“We’ve had some pretty exciting meets,” said senior Ella Lerou. She recounted the team’s senior game against Weymouth, in which North qualified for the playoffs after a last-second goal by sophomore Camille Kouroriez. “It was the quickest transfer ever,” Lerou said. “It went from one side of the field to the other in seconds.”

North lost its first playoff game against Natick 7-0.

Buras attributed the team’s successes to communication on the field. “Once we got to know each other more on the field, we started getting better and better,” she said. “We’ve worked a lot on passing, seeing each other, reading where we’re going and leading each other with passes.”

Lerou agreed with Buras, adding, “Our team dynamic was great this season, and I don’t think it could have been any better this season.”

According to head coach Kristy Moore, the captains have been great role models to the rest of the team and inspired players to perform better. “We have such great leadership this year, with five seniors leading our defense.”

Moore also praised Rougeaux’s performance throughout the season. “Darcy is a consistent communicator and has performed well on the backfield,” she said. “She can find the save when it seems impossible and is good at creating a cornerstone in the back with the other seniors.”

“Everything else gets a little easier when everyone gets along,” Lerou said. “It carries onto the field, and players can communicate and trust each other better.”
