Softball blows out Wellesley, remains undefeated

Softball beat Wellesley 12-1 at home on Monday, April 29.

Senior Jordan Jasset pitched the whole game, giving up just three hits and recording five strikeouts. “I think Jordan did a really great job,” said senior Mia Bueno, a captain with senior Emma MacLean. “She is a strong senior leader on the mound and has helped on several occasions to shut down team’s offenses.”

Wellesley struck early, scoring their only run of the game off Jassett in the top of the first. “Sometimes pitchers get flustered if teams score at the beginning of the game,” said health and wellness teacher Lauren Baugher, North’s head coach, “but she was able to remain poised.”

The Tigers’ bats were hot all game, scoring at least one run in each inning. “We were able to put runners on base, and we were able to capitalize,” said Baugher.

Sophomore Briyani Mercedes hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the team’s lead to 11. “We were all really pumped for Bri,” said Bueno. “It put a nice finish to a great team win.” After the three run shot, the game ended due to the 10 run mercy rule.

Junior Ciara Gillen had two hits and an RBI on the day, and junior Rachel Bindman recorded two RBIs.

According to Bueno, confidence and trust are essential for the team if they want to remain undefeated. “We do not really worry about our record,” she said. “We just worry about working hard at practice and believing in each other and the wins will follow.”

North, 9-0, will play Framingham today on the road.
