Boys’ tennis defeated Milton 5-0 at home last Monday. According to senior Ben Archer, a captain with senior David Arango, the team put in a “dominant” performance, as the Tigers didn’t drop a single set en route to a sweep.

Seniors Eli Marcus and Matthew Riak won their match 6-0 against Milton’s top pairing. Archer and senior Gyaan Antia also blanked their doubles opponent. Archer said that Antia, who hadn’t been playing doubles regularly for the team, “really stepped up and helped us perform well.”

Sophomore Leo Kaluzhny, who has been a “solid” player this year according to Archer, defeated Milton’s top singles player. Arango and sophomore Veer Gadodia also won their individual matchups.

Archer said that practice has been the catalyst for the team’s success so far this season. “In practice we do a good job of drilling doubles play, focusing on consistency, and playing ‘high percentage tennis’ in the words of our coach,” he said.

The captain explained that though the team made quick work of Milton, he is pleased that they didn’t lose their focus. “I think many times when we play not as good schools, kids tend to slack off and have a little too much fun, which sometimes doesn’t help when we play better schools,” Archer said.

North, 4-1, will host Needham on Wednesday.
