Boys' swim loses to Reading at home

Boys’ swim and dive lost to Reading 94-85 at home last Thursday night. “We have some new kids trying some new events, so hopefully we will continue to improve as the season goes on,” said guidance counselor Patrick Manning, the head coach.

Reading jumped out to an early lead, winning the 200 yard medley relay 13-3 and the 200 yard freestyle 10-6, extending their lead to 31-15.

“It’s all about focusing on your own event and trying your best to win no matter what; regardless of if it’s the first half or second half,” said senior Jason Wang, a captain with senior Jonathan Qian.

North won the 200 yard butterfly after Qian finished in 58.71 seconds, and juniors Colin Foley and Karl Mohy El Din finished in 1:08.01 and 1:09.25 seconds respectively.

“Jonathan is our best swimmer, so going into the meet we were pretty confident that he would win those events,” said Wang.

Then in the 100 yard freestyle, Wang led North with a 55.25 to win the event 9-7, and narrowed Reading’s overall lead down to 53-30.

However, strong performances from Reading in the 500 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle relay, and 400 yard free relay helped them to regain control of the match. Although North won the 100 yard breaststroke, they were unable to take the lead.

North will host Xaverian Brothers on Tuesday at 3:45.
