Girls’ cross country, 2-3, has had a down year by their standards, however are in position to qualify for All-States.
In order to qualify for All-States, the Tigers will need to have a solid fifth runner.
“Once we figure out who consistently is our fifth runner, we will be in better shape to qualify for all states because the fifth runner is one of the most important. Your team is only as good as its fifth runner” said Victoria Spitaels, a captain with seniors Natalie Cohen, Wesley Joseph, Ruby Mayer, and Dee Wu.
The Tigers’ first four runners, sophomore Rose Teszler, Spitaels, sophomore Einat Gavish, and senior Leah Metzger have been constant in the scoring, but senior Cat Teasdale and freshman Celia Jessiman have been contributing to the scoring as well creating a revolving door in the fifth running spot. With 65 girls on the team, many could emerge as the fifth runner.
With wins against Framingham and Norwood and losses to Needham, Walpole and Wellesley, the Tigers competed today at Weymouth. Spitaels believes this will be a close match, but that the Tigers should be able to win.
