Football spoiled their undefeated record last Saturday, losing 28-21 against BC High in the South Sectional Semifinals.
“Overall, I think it was kind of a disappointment,” said senior Andrew DeNucci, a captain with seniors Curtis Beatrice, Chris Quinn, and Devaughn White.
With BC up 14-0 at the half and 21-0 at the end of the third quarter, it seemed unlikely that the Tigers would make a comeback.
But senior Mikey Barbieri and Napoleon Miller’s consecutive fourth quarter touchdowns motivated the Tigers late in the game as they pulled within seven.
BC High responded with a touchdown from senior Sean Holleran that put them up 14 with 1:38 left in the game.
“We were down 28-14 in the middle of the 4th, but we never gave up and found ourselves in a position to possibly tie and then win the game. We came up short but just being a part of that thrilling comeback was something that will make my senior year memorable,” White said.
The Tigers refused to quit. Miller scored his second touchdown with only 30 seconds left to play, cutting the deficit to seven.
BC High led the entire game, racing out to an early lead on second-quarter touchdowns by sophomore Jared Mockus and junior Steve Timmins.
“I am proud of the team for not giving up and showing its determination”,” Quinn said. “We really came back to prove ourselves.”
Although the loss knocked the Tigers’ perfect record down to 8-1, Quinn is proud to be a part of the team.
“I consider myself very lucky to have been on this team my senior year and I wouldn’t trade this group of guys for anyone,” Quinn said.
The Tigers play a consolation game tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Bridgewater-Raynham.
