Nitrous Oxide, this school’s sketch comedy troupe, will present its annual comedic showcase, “Nitrous Oxide,” Thursday, June 7 and Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the little theatre.
Created by Chris Annas-Lee ’10 and Seth Simons ’10 in 2008, Nitrous Oxide compiles student-written comedic scenes and performs them. This year, senior Graham Techler and junior Jack Reibstein are directors.

“In my opinion, ‘Nitrous Oxide’ is a truly unmatched spectacle of student-written material,” said Reibstein. “We as a troupe write and revise countless sketches, pick out the very best of the year, continue to tweak them and end up putting on a full-length show that is 100 percent original sketch comedy.”

Troupe members wrote sketches for the upcoming show starting in November, according to Reibstein.

“People write sketches and then present them to the cast during rehearsal,” he said. “Then, we all brainstorm ways to improve and revise the sketch by adding in, taking away or restructuring the jokes over a course of a few weeks until we feel as if we have spent enough time focusing on the sketch.”

About thirty sketches will appear in the final show, according to Reibstein. One of the sketches is called  “Barbara.” In the sketch, sophomore Kelsey Fox characterizes a Barbie doll designed after a realistic woman.

Reibstein, who was a cast member in past years, described his experience directing “Nitrous Oxide” for the first time.

“Being able to work with and help teach such an amazing cast has been truly awesome,” he said. “I love working with all these guys, and each and every one of them has put in the time to further improve his own and each others’ comedic writing and acting skills.

“As a huge fan of all types of comedy, I’m really proud to have helped guide them through such a fun process,” he said.
