Girls’ swim and dive, 6-0, triumphed 98-80 against Acton-Boxborough Friday, Oct. 3. The team had 37 swimmers and three divers participate in the meet in 12 different categories.
The noise was deafening as North’s pre-meet cheer echoed off the walls of North’s pool, and the meet promptly started with the diving section.
North and Acton-Boxborough both had three divers participate in six dives each. Junior captain Anusha Chakravarthy and freshman Ellington Yi had the highest individual scores, with two 7.5s and a 7 from the three judges.
Chakravarthy is a captain alongside seniors Finnleigh MacCannel, Jillian Schneider, and Orly Fishman, junior Abby Holton and sophomore Lana Conley.
Assistant coach Michael Kennedy said, “Anusha did an inward 1.5 somersault for seven and a half, which was a standout dive for her today. The freshmen, Ellington and Audrey, did two new dives. They both tried a front double,” he said. Yi’s total diving score was high enough to qualify him for the State tournament, he added.
The Tigers won the diving section with a score of 12-5. Chakravarthy placed 1st, Yi placed 2nd, and freshman Audrey Aguilera placed 4th.
The swim section kicked off with the 200 yard medley race, followed by the 200 yard freestyle.
Sophomore Victoria Callahan, junior Barbara Liao, and freshman Chloe Wang placed 1st in the 200 yard individual medley, the 50 yard freestyle, and 100 yard butterfly, respectively.
Chakravarthy said, “Acton-Boxborough hasn’t been our biggest competitor over the years, but we did pretty well. We have some really good underclassmen swimmers and the upperclassmen are definitely bringing it back.”
Following was the 500 yard freestyle, in which Callahan placed 1st again, and the Tigers placed 1st in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.83.
Sophomore Cate Dimattia, who swam the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, said, “I think we were all really supportive as a team today, and I felt really connected to all the people that I swam with.”
The rest of Heat 1 went unscored as a result of North’s far lead, according to Chakravarthy.
Girls’ swim and dive triumphed against Framingham Monday, Oct. 6, and will face Natick on Friday, Oct. 10.
