As the postseason continues, girls’ swim and dive is continuing to find success during meets.
According to senior Lauren Moriarty, a captain with seniors Elizabeth Gibbs and Sophia Ly, the Tigers finished second at Bay States this past weekend. The placement, however, was not what she found important.
“What was more important was the number of personal best times the team got–20 individual and six relay times,” she said. “Getting all of those personal best times I think has motivated the girls to push themselves even more.”
Ly added that the atmosphere the Tigers created at the meet allowed for this success.
“It was really cool seeing how pumped up everyone was for the meet. We all got in the zone on the bus and when it came time to swim our events, no one disappointed,” she said.
Despite breaking so many time records, Ly believes there’s still room to improve. “After seeing what the competition is really like in such a high intensity meet, everyone is more motivated to get faster times [and] to out swim [their] competitors.”
Gibbs added that “it was awesome to see such enthusiasm out of everyone, especially because it was the last meet of the season for some girls.”
The Tigers will compete at Sectionals this weekend at MIT and at States at Harvard next weekend, meets that Moriarty thinks are looking promising.
“We will be competing with more tough teams in each, but I think especially in Sectionals, our team has the depth required to put out a really tough fight,” she said.
Moriarty also added that senior Rachel Adamsky, one of the team’s new divers, has been doing great.
“Rachel seems to be having a pretty easy time carrying over her gymnastics skills to diving, seeing as she’s close to making States,” she said.
Gibbs also noted that the new swimmers this year could not be greater.
“They’re spunky and excited to be on the team, and are incredibly impressive swimmers. They’re all dedicated to the sport and to self-improvement. It’s been really inspiring to see them make all of these achievements in just their first season,” she said.
The new Tiger swimmers have also added a new level of excitement to the team, said Ly.
“They all want to be on the team and they prove that every single time during our hard workouts and intense meets,” she said.
Ly also said that with Sectionals and States coming up, the Tigers are focusing on isolating the competition during practice.
“Thinking about the other teams gives us that extra drive to push forward but what we are emphasizing is that when it really comes down to it, we have to push ourselves to kick harder, have stronger dives, and to reach the wall first,” she said.
