Girls’ lacrosse, 6-5, is on its way to reaching its goal of qualifying for the State Tournament. To qualify for the tournament, the Tigers must win four of their remaining nine games.
After winning the season opener against Dover-Sherborn and blowing out Milton, the Tigers sunk their next two games against Framingham and Natick.
In order to qualify for the tournament, the team must overcome some obstacles such as consistency issues and communication. Senior Lea McDade, a captain with senior Nicole Quinn, said the Tigers “still need to work on our communication on defense and shooting on attack.”
Consistency has been a common issue for the Tigers this season. In four of their six wins, the team has won by scores of 16-4, 16-5, 14-5, and 14-2. However, the Tigers have not brought that same effort to all their games. “It seems like we have really great games, and then some games that we seem a little off.” said O’Leary.
Down three goals with 70 seconds to play against Hingham, the Tigers were on the verge of a three game losing streak. However the Tigers rallied and came back to win the game, an early turning point of the year. Coach Kate O’Leary felt that the game “picked up the morale of the team after a tough loss” and that it was “fun to watch the girls come together during this game, trust each other, and play like a team.”
Despite communication flaws on the field, the Tigers have had a great atmosphere off the field. According to O’Leary, the team gets along really well, generally enjoys being around each other and that the team “really respects and looks up to the seniors who are being really great leaders this season.”
Upcoming games for the Tigers include a home game against Scituate Monday May, 11 and an away game against Braintree Tuesday May, 12. Thursday May 14, the Tigers will battle it out against undefeated Needham at home.
