Girls’ swim lost to Acton-Boxborough 102-85 on the road last Friday. “This was an opportunity to go head to head with a swim team that has real talent,” said senior Maia Alberts, a captain with seniors Rachel Donnellan, Kat Filipova, and Claudia Flint.
According to Alberts, the team acknowledged that Acton-Boxborough was a strong team and as a result had a more relaxed outlook on the meet.
“We decided to lose the stress and have some fun going into it, focusing on
the individual personal records and cheering each other on rather than just winning,” she said.
“The meet was very close except for two events,” said head coach Alex Raasch.
Raasch added that the team needs to improve on their backstroke and butterfly.
Kat and sophomore Alex Filipova both performed well in the 200-meter event. According to Alberts, Alex made her time to qualify for the State tournament.
Sophomore Jocelyn Schecter led the team in diving, in what was one of her best meets this year, according to Alberts.
Despite leaving with a loss, Alberts said, “Coming out of the meet we got some fantastic times and scores, which we are all really excited about.”
She added, “I’m proud to say that our team never gets lost in the competition itself. At this point in the season, the team is in a good place.”
The team will face Wellesley today at home.
