If the team continues on the path of improvement that began at the start of the season, the team will have a shot at defeating Attleboro and Lowell at the State Championship Wednesday, Feb. 15,  he said. “Each of those teams have beaten us in separate meets, but we should be able to defeat at States, by continuing to get better.”

According to Chan, the team started out stronger than it was last year, thanks to the increase in gymnasts. “It also helps that our returning gymnasts have improved greatly since last season.”

Senior Curran Ferrey, a captain with senior Isaac Feinhaus said, “the event where we’ve performed best is definitely the floor exercise. We’ve worked hard there, and our results have been strong.”

While the Tigers have yet to see their first victory, the team knows that gymnastics is a sport in which individual scores are emphasized. Therefore, many team members tend to focus on achieving higher scores for certain events, such as in the floor, in addition to winning overall.

So far, the Tigers’ highest score in any event is 118. Chan’s goal for the season is that the team “achieve scores that are more than 125.”
Ferrey said he was setting his sights a bit higher. “My goal for us is that by the end of the season we will have broken 130. It’s definitely possible.”
