Girls’ softball was eliminated Sunday in the sectional finals. Senior Bridget McLaughlin, a captain with senior Madison Beatrice, said “we accomplished a huge goal, because North softball has never made it that far.”
The Tigers lost 10-2 to Central Catholic. “In that last game, when we got people on base, we could have done a better job of moving them around. That’s something we need to learn from and do better next year,” said coach Lauren Baugher.
According to Beatrice and Baugher, freshman Gabby Vachon was an All-Star throughout the post-season. Baugher and Beatrice also recognized senior Bridget McLaughlin, sophomore Caitlin O’Hanley, and freshman Rachel Hamilton for their efforts.
“A game that stands out is our semi-final game against Acton-Boxborough,” said Baugher. The team won 11-10. “It was like a Rocky movie,” she said. “We would get hit, and then we hit em back. We’d score, they’d score, and I think that game really showed what kind of a team we were.”
Baugher strives to maintain the same family philosophies that the team had this season. “We have some pretty big shoes to fill with all the seniors that are leaving,” she said.
Beatrice said, “We were a pretty young team, so I think we’ll be very strong in the next few years. Us captains were always big on being intense on the bench, and hopefully they can keep that up next year!”
