JV field hockey finishes successful season, despite lack of experience

by Douglas Abrams

This year, girl’s JV field hockey was largely composed of freshmen, so the team focused on improving and learning the sport, according to coach Liane Dixon.

Despite the lack of experience, the team finished its season with a record of 8-2-8. According to Dixon, “There was definitely a significant amount of growth from day one to the conclusion of the season.”

Dixon said that the goal of the team this season was to teach the newcomers how to play field hockey.

The team’s relative success this season was due to “the players’ willingness to learn the sport despite the weakness of never having played before, ” said Dixon.

Another factor in the teams’ success were the captains, sophomores Cari Daniels and Sonia Khurana, and standout players sophomores Maddie Meyer and Madeline Paquette and freshman Sydney Beatrice.

“Some of our impact players included Maddie Meyer who was a steady leader on defense and Madeleine Paquette who was involved tenaciously throughout the midfield. Adding to the offense on the field key goal scorers included Daniels and Beatrice as well as Khurana,” said Dixon.

According to Khurana, “The most memorable moment was when we were losing a game by one goal and we scored in a corner play after time was up, so we tied. Even though we didn’t win, it was really great.”

Daniels said that the team has “Improved a lot and became really good friends.”
