Field hockey loses to Natick under the lights

Field hockey fell to Natick 7-0 at home last Thursday in their annual under the lights game.

Natick dominated the ball for most of the first half as North’s offense struggled to string together long possessions early. “I think we could improve communication,” said senior Jen Buras, a captain with seniors Gabby Gilpin, Yunah Jang, and Darcy Rougeaux. “We need to talk more when we are open and have strong cuts to the ball.”

Rougeaux made a few key saves in the first half, saving a penalty shot early in the game and stopping back to back Natick attempts midway through the half. “Darcy is incredible,” said Jang. “She holds the fort down.”

After giving up five goals in the first half, the teams’ defense tightened for the rest of the game, giving up only one more goal until the final minute. According to Jang, the team needs to be quicker on defense when going for the ball.

In the waning minutes of the game, the team had some good offensive opportunities but was unable to capitalize on them. “We need quicker passes,” said Jang. “Even one more touch on the ball would be helpful.”

Last Tuesday, the team defeated Weymouth 3-2 after a last second goal by sophomore Camille Kouroriez to qualify for the playoffs.
