Boys’ soccer lost 3-1 to Framingham in the MIAA Division I Sectional quarterfinal on November 7th. After an upset win against second-ranked East Boston, the loss to Framingham “was tough,” according to senior P.J. Membrino, a captain with seniors Max Johnston and Tobey Lowe.

“Throughout the game, the bounces weren’t in our favor and we weren’t able to overcome that from the very beginning of the match,” he said.

Just minutes into the game, the Flyers struck first after senior Gabe Teotonio slotted the ball past Membrino for the opening goal. Framingham doubled their advantage early in the second half after senior Gus Andrade scored from 20 yards out. The ball slipped through Membrino’s hands and into the back of the next. Minutes later, the Flyers increased their lead to three.

In the final minutes of the game, senior Francesco Campione put the Tigers on the board. “[That goal] really gave us a little more pride in the effort that we had put in,” Membrino said.

Membrino praised the work of seniors Diego Gisholt, Grayson Hargens, Johnston, Matthew Nielsen, and sophomore Will Rooney, despite the loss. “They’ve played hard all year and really put the effort in,” he said.

With 13 graduating seniors this year, Membrino said that the team will still have a good group of players next year. “The team will definitely have high expectations next season, especially with a strong midfield core [of sophomores Rialto Janairo, Danilo Talisayon, Andrew Nielsen, and junior Akash Sahadevan] returning next year,” he said.
