Field hockey fell 0-4 after putting up a strong fight against the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors, Friday, Oct. 3.
“We need to work on having more communication and getting used to our teammates’ style of play,” said senior Lexi Blanchfield, a captain alongside senior Abbie Seeley. “I think this will come as we play together more and more.”
Throughout the first quarter of the game, the Warriors mostly kept possession, but the Tigers’ defense and junior goalie Juliette Winston worked relentlessly to stop the majority of the attacks.
Eventually, in the 12th minute, the Warriors found success and slipped the ball into the back of the net.
The Tigers kept their heads held high in the second quarter, though, creating opportunities of their own. According to Blanchfield, the team’s ability to avoid conceding goals was due to Winston’s skillfulness.
“A highlight of the game was definitely the crazy jumping saves Juliette made,” said Blanchfield.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, Lincoln-Sudbury came out with a new fire in the third quarter, making persistent advances on North’s defense.
Lincoln-Sudbury forward Sabrina Libbert scored in the eighth minute, causing the team to find its momentum, with Libbert scoring two more goals in the following five minutes.
The Tigers didn’t let the score affect their performance in the fourth quarter and continued creating goal scoring opportunities with notable performances from Blanchfield and sophomores Willa Hanson and Sophie Chapman.
Seeley said, “I’m looking forward to playing teams for a second time because our team has improved so much. I’m excited to see how we do against teams that we lost to or tied in the past.”
According to Blanchfield, the team has been working hard on and off the field to form bonds that will help the Tigers find success in the postseason.
The Tigers, 2-8-2, fell to Natick 0-3 on Monday, Oct. 6. The team will face Framingham at home on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
