In a commanding performance from start to finish, girls’ volleyball defeated Walpole 3-0, Tuesday, Sept. 30 in the Reggie Gym.
The Tigers opened the first set with a seamless connection between junior setter Sasha Selivan and senior hitter Ella Tullimieri, earning the first several points of the match.
Only seven minutes in, North held a 12-4 lead, with consistently quick reactions and controlled strategy keeping Walpole off balance.
The highlight of the set came during the 14th point, in a close rally with the ball nearly hitting the floor twice on the North side. Senior libero Alayna O’Connell dove to keep the play alive before junior middle hitter Lyla Berton sealed the point with a decisive strike. North closed the set 25-9 in just 15 minutes.
The Tigers carried their momentum into the second set, once again surging to a 12-4 split in the first 10 minutes. With strong defense and full-court coverage, North widened the gap and secured another 25-9 set win.
“A lot of people got in today. We got to see strong serving from almost all players, and great hitting from Berton and senior Charlotte Pernisie,” said assistant coach Chris Chin. “We’re continuing to put a priority on limited unforced errors and not giving up points.”
By the third set, the Tigers showed no signs of slowing down. Rotating in all the reserved players, they claimed the first point and immediately built up another 14-2 lead in just six minutes.
Consistent serves and confident swings gave North an 18-5 advantage midway through, and the team closed the sweep 25-8.
“Everybody on the team got their head in the game,” said junior Paige Elman. “The energy was really good and everybody was loud the whole time.”
Senior Ling Silverstein added, “We’re working on being louder and more communicative. Since we really bond off the court, we’re trying to transfer it to the court.”
North, 10-1, secured a 3-0 win against Bishop Feehan, Friday, Oct. 3, and will face Natick Tuesday, Oct. 7.
