Field hockey lost to Andover 6-0 in a tough, highly defensive battle away Saturday, Sept. 14.
With senior Macy Goodwin, a star player, out due to injury, the team had to step up, and players were in positions they were unfamiliar with.
“It was really cool to see different people trying different positions and moving around. Everyone was able to adjust in a situation we never thought we would be in, and people played awesome,” said senior Maddie Ryan, a captain along with Goodwin.
Andover started the game with possession, wasting no time before taking a shot. Senior Izzy Lubbe-Lynch, a goalie, was able to prevent their early attempt by making a quick save.
However, Andover continued with its strong attack, scoring four goals before the half concluded.
“We need to play with a higher sense of urgency, and implement practice drills into game-like situations,” said Goodwin.
The Tigers were able to start the second half strong by earning an offensive corner, but didn’t manage to score. They struggled to generate more offense and extend the momentum into the remainder of the half.
A stroke sealed Andover’s fifth goal of the game. North stayed resilient, striving to reverse the score but Andover’s aggressive offense proved too strong as the game ended in a 6-0 loss.
According to Ryan, despite the numbers on the scoreboard, every player was proud of their efforts.
“This will help us when we play other teams that aren’t as strong, so hopefully we can continue to work hard and play as hard as we played today,” said health and wellness teacher Lauren Baugher, the head coach.
The Tigers, 1- 4, will play Brookline Monday, Sep. 16 at home.
