Golf, 5-8, tied for third in the Bay State conference meet on Tuesday Oct. 17, with Braintree, finishing behind Wellesley and Brookline.
“We went out there just looking to have fun and play good golf and I think we accomplished that goal,” said junior Sean Fitzgerald, a captain with senior Henry Johnson and sophomore Pete Delmonico. “The course was tough and our guys persevered and it showed in the standings.”
Fitzgerald finished the meet in fifth place, earning him a Bay State All-star award. Sophomore Jake Forbes finished the meet in 12th, missing out on a Bay State All-Star award by one shot.
Forbes “adapted very well to the course, and put together a great score” despite the course “not playing to his strengths,” Fitzgerald added.
The Tigers only sent three athletes: Fitzgerald, Forbes, and Delmonico to the Bay State Conference meet.
According to Fitzgerald, the season highlight came against Needham in the last match of the season. “We had lost a few very close matches just before that, and Needham had beaten us early in the season.”
Fitzgerald added “We grinded it out the whole way in some difficult conditions, and came out with the win. I think it was great for the confidence of the team to finally win a close one,” said Fitzgerald.
The regular season has ended for the Tigers, but the season is not over for Fitzgerald, who was selected by his scores to compete in the state sectional qualifier.
