Girls’ volleyball improved to 9-0 with a five-set victory over Barnstable Friday night, a contest in which the Tigers’ skills were “put to the test” against a “high level team” in the state, according to senior Anna Zucchero, a captain with seniors Emma Brown, Abby Donnellan, Lily Marcus, Sofia Perez-Dietz, and Liana Rielly.
Zucchero added that the team was “determined to never give up and to play out every point” throughout every set, citing one kill by sophomore Ashley Wang as a highlight from the game.
According to Marcus, the Tigers were able to play well enough as a collective unit to earn the key victory.
“We knew that we were stronger than them, and the game came down to either us losing based off of our own errors or us beating them by minimizing those errors,” she explained. “We are really strong across the board and it came down to executing our plays and not making little mistakes.”
Marcus added that “the future looks really good” now for the team in its pursuit of an undefeated season, as Barnstable was the biggest competitor on the Tigers’ schedule.
“I am so genuinely proud of this team,” she said. “We are so close and we put so much effort into everything we do.”
