Football, 6-5, wrapped up its season Thanksgiving by handling Brookline with a 27-12 defeat on the road in a game the team never trailed.
The Tigers started off fast, scoring on their opening drive with a 5 yard touchdown run by junior Jimmy Hodgson.
Brookline remained scoreless until it scored with about two minutes remaining in the first half on a quarterback sneak. However, the Tigers blocked the extra point which kept them in a 7-6 lead. The game remained that way until half time. This was the closest Brookline came in the game, as the Tigers jumped out to a larger lead in the second half.
On the Tigers’ first drive of the second half, they extended their lead on a touchdown run by Trevor Martinez-Tobin, a captain with seniors Cuba Birnbaum, Mike Gately, Thomas Joyce, and Louis Yarmolinski, which gave them a 14-6 lead.
After an interception by Martinez-Tobin on Brookline’s next drive, he scored his second touchdown of the day. The Tigers took a 21-6 lead after the extra point.
Brookline retaliated by rushing for a touchdown on their next drive, however in an effort to make it a seven point game, they failed on the two point conversion attempt, putting the team in a 21-12 hole.
After a Tigers’ punt, Brookline regained possession and marched down the field in the fourth quarter. However, they failed to convert on the fourth down try, giving the Tigers possession of the ball, and Jimmy Hodgson scored another rushing touchdown. Despite missing the extra point they jumped to a 27-12 lead and the score remained that way for the rest of the game.
