Fall dance team captured first place in the hip hop category at States Wednesday, for the second year in a row.
According to senior Anna D’Alleva, a captain with seniors Jenna Hogan and Kimberly Newton, the team’s success was due to their teamwork.
“We are always there to help each other out, and this formed a strong sense of trust and support throughout the entire team. It really helped to carry us far,” she said.
The team’s routine was packed with energy and surprises, according to D’Alleva. “We have worked hard to perfect new tricks in order to keep the crowd on their toes, never knowing what to expect next. We also put a lot of effort into our facial expressions and overall performance,” she said.
The team welcomed eight new members this season, which was both a blessing and a challenge according to D’Alleva. “While we were excited to see a growing interest in the dance team, we were also nervous because this meant that almost half the team was unaccustomed to competing and performing,” she said.
Focused practices and team unity helped smooth this transition according to D’Alleva. “At times, some girls would get distracted, but a teammate, captain, or coach always stepped up to remind the team that we had to focus. Along with a strong team bond we shared a common goal, and this helped to motivate each member and improve our work ethic.”
According to D’Alleva, the team hopes to carry this success into the winter season. “The hard work we put in this season really paid off, so we will make sure to keep it up, in order to have another successful season,” she said.
