Girls’ volleyball opened the season with a statement win, 3-0 over Framingham Tuesday, Sept. 14.

“This was our first game, so there’s obviously first game jitters, but as a team I feel like we have been working really hard to get over those and in practice we’ve constantly been working on having a game mindset,” said senior Carlotta Menozzi, a captain with seniors Ava Bottino, Megan Carey, Molly Delahunty, Ella Maher, Riley Raker, Giuliana Sardi Rogines, and Ioanna Tembelopoulos.

In the first set, the Tigers struggled early and allowed six consecutive points to Framingham, but aggressive play from North allowed them to take the first set 25-22.

Mennozzi added that after the shaky start, the Tigers found their footing and began to work as a unit as the game progressed.

In the second set, North cruised to a 25-13 win. The success was attributed to North’s defensive control, overall aggressiveness, and outstanding hustle. Menozzi led the way with five kills.

In the final set, the Tigers defense controlled the game, and the set ended 25-9 in North’s favor.

“Volleyball is really a game of defensive skills and putting them together and I think we have really been putting them together,” said Menozzi.

Nile Fox, the head coach, said that the improvement in the last two sets was impressive to witness. “When we started the game, we kind of started out rocky, but every set I felt like we got better and got more control of the game, playing more as a team and communicating more.”

After a promising first game, Fox added that he hopes this momentum can push the team to greater heights.

“I just want to build off of the fact that we are just coming together and just playing as a team, and just keep getting our skills better,” said Fox. “Even though we did win, we still have a lot more that we can work on, but I feel like this is a great start to the season.”

Girls’ volleyball, 1-0, will play Newton South Saturday, Sept. 18 at home.
