Budget allocates additional funding for programs, educators

by Hilary Brumberg and Perrin Stein As a part of the Fiscal Year 2013 budget, which was passed Monday, March 26, this school will receive the equivalent of two additional full time educators (FTEs), a floating custodian, funding for the Innovation Lab and funding for the One to One program. These new programs will be partially paid for by non-athletic school-sponsored extra-curricular fees (clubs), which were implemented in FY12.

After a crippling economic recession, Fiscal Year 2012 cut programs and teachers from this school, but in FY13 teachers and money will be added back to the payroll. We support the addition of two regular education full time educators (FTEs) and understand why the Newton Public Schools maintains the non-athletic school-sponsored extra-curricular activities fees (clubs).

School Committee approves superintendent's Fiscal Year 2013 budget
