Fall season student athletes received varsity letters and athletic awards during the Fall Sports Awards Ceremony Monday at 6p.m. in the auditorium.
Coaches and captains gave thanks to parents, coaches, students and the athletic administration, as well as describing the team’s season.
Some speakers highlighted specific teams’ accomplishments. Among them were the fall dance team and cheerleading.
The fall dance team, in their first season, finished in first place in the hip hop division of Andy Yosinoff’s New England Cheer and Dance competition, as well as receiving the grand champion trophy.
Cheerleading finished in fourth place at Division 1 States, an amazing accomplishment, according to coach Amanda Costa. The team also placed first in the Bay States Conference competition Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Braintree.
Girls’ soccer finished a “very very successful season” according to coach James Hamblin.
Girls’ volleyball finished the season as co-Bay State Conference Champions with Brookline. Senior Laurie Kamenetsky, a captain with the rest of the seniors on the team, said the season was “filled with athleticism and commitment.”
Football coach Peter Capodilupo stressed the benefits of playing a sport for students. “Some of the best teaching I see in this school is on the athletic fields,” he said.
Players received MIAA sportsmanship awards for excellent behavior on and off of the field throughout the season.
The award was distributed to one athlete per team. The following students received the award:

- senior Alison Berkowitz, a captain of field hockey
- senior Maggie Heffernan in girls’ soccer
- senior Veronica Ingham, a captain of girls’ swimming and diving
- senior Aidan Keyes in football
- senior Jackson Moss-Hawkins in boys’ soccer
- senior Allie Phillips, a captain of girls’ cross country
- senior Maura Quinn, a captain of fall dance team
- senior Justin Keefe, a captain of boys’ cross country
- junior Briana Hogan in cheerleading
- junior Mark Vrahas, a captain of golf
