North launches Tiger Fitness program

North+launches+Tiger+Fitness+program

North launched a new fitness program this week called “Tiger Fitness,” aimed at helping students to stay active and interact with their peers despite remote learning.

According to health and wellness teacher Lauren Baugher, “It’s accessible to everybody and there’s no fitness level that is required. It’s an opportunity for kids, while the weather is nice, to get outside and do something with their peers.”

Tiger Fitness takes place Tuesday through Friday, socially distanced on the North athletics field. There are two sessions one running from 4:30 to 5:30 and another from 5:30-6:30.

Baugher will run the workouts Tuesday and Thursday, focusing on cardiovascular fitness and flexibility. For at least the first two weeks, Wednesdays and Fridays will be run by health and wellness teacher Bradley Mayer, who will focus on speed, agility, power and bodyweight movements.

According to Baugher, one of the goals of the program is to give students an outlet to interact socially as well as improving students’ emotional well-being.

“With the amount of time kids are spending behind the screen it’s a way for them just to have another outlet to move their bodies,” she said.

Students, with parental permission, can sign up for the free program on Family ID.
